Fairly heavy rainfall above 75mm expected in three provinces

Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island in the afternoon or at night, the Department of Meteorology says. 

Accordingly, fairly heavy showers above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Uva, Central and Easten provinces.

A few showers may occur in coastal areas of the western and southern provinces during the morning too.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the morning.

The Meteorology Department has advised the members of the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas:

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are likely in several places in the sea area extending from Colombo to Batticaloa via Galle and Hambantota. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in other sea areas around the island, particularly during afternoon or night.

Winds will be southerly to south-westerly and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to 40kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar will be moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
