Two of the three suspects who were involved in an stabbing attack on a police officer in Narahenpita on Thursday (30 Nov.), have been arrested by the Wellawatte Police.

The injured Police Constable is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo South (Kalubowila) Teaching Hospital, police confirmed.

According to police, the injured Constable and another police officer on traffic duty, stationed on Havelock Road near a housing complex in the area, had stopped a motorcycle, travelling from Colombo towards Kirulapone, which the three suspects were riding on.

As the police officers approached the motorcycle in question, the suspects had run off towards Udyana Road, Narahenpita, following which the police personnel had chased them down on a motorcycle.

During this chase, however, one of the suspects had stabbed the Constable with a knife and a glass bottle, police reported.

Area residents had later aided the police, and two of the three persons were arrested, while one suspect is believed to have fled the scene.

Police further reported that the motorcycle used by the suspects, which is now in police custody, had been reported stolen in Rajagiriya on Wednesday (29 Nov.).
