Human trafficking to Myanmar: CID identifies three suspects

Three persons who had been engaged in the trafficking of Sri Lankans to Myanmar had been identified through investigations carried out by the Human Trafficking, Human Smuggling, and Maritime Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). 

 

The three suspects, who were identified to be the residents of Aralaganwila, Wathuregama and Dorathiyawa areas, have fled the areas, according to the CID.

 

It has also been revealed that they have sent the group of Sri Lankans in question to Myanmar through visit visa.

 

It was recently reported that 56 Sri Lankans are being forcibly detained in a Burmese terrorist camp and put to work as cyber slaves.

 

Three of five individuals who escaped from the camp and managed to return to Sri Lanka provided a statement to the CID today (Dec. 24).  

 

The escapees, four young men and a young woman, who landed in Myanmar in April 2023 expecting to pursue a career as Data Entry Operators returned to Sri Lanka on the 04 November 2023 following their escape.
