Two people injured, several vehicles damaged after 2 trees collapse

Two individuals were injured and 08 vehicles were reported damaged in Kandy this morning (Dec.27) after two trees collapsed.

According to the residents of the area, a Bo tree and a Champak (‘Sapu’) tree had fallen at around 11:00 a.m. after being waterlogged due to heavy rainfall.

The injured have been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for medical attention.

A total of 08 vehicles including cars, vans, three-wheelers and a lorry were severely damaged in the accident.

Vehicular movement along the Thilak Ratnayake Mawatha in Kandy was also disrupted for several hours due to the collapsed trees.

Kandy police officers, firefighters, army personnel and municipal council workers have worked in tandem to clear the road.
