Fairly heavy showers of about 75mm expected in several districts

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Eastern and Uva provinces and Hambantota district, the Department of Meteorology says.

Several spells of showers will occur in Northern, North-central provinces and Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts.

Fairly heavy showers of about 75mm are likely at some places in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambanthota districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere of the island after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds of about 30-40 kmph can be expected at times in the Eastern slopes of the Central hills and in Northern, North-Central, North-western, Eastern, Uva and Southern provinces.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

The public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Batticaloa and Pottuvil. Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in other sea areas around the island during the afternoon or night.

Winds will be easterly to north-easterly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph.

Wind speed may increase up to 50-60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankesanturai via Puttalam and Mannar.

Wind speed may increase up to 40-50 kmph in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankesanturai to Galle via Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Pottuvil and Hambantota.
