Stretch of Polonnaruwa - Batticaloa road inundated; vehicular movement restricted

Vehicular movement along the Polonnaruwa - Batticaloa main road has been restricted due to inundation, Ada Derana correspondent says.
Accordingly, the stretch of road from Gallella to Manampitiya was limited to heavy vehicles starting 2:00 p.m. today (Dec.28).
According to reports, the Mahaweli River has overflowed after its upper catchment areas were pounded by torrential rainfall.
Polonnaruwa Police has urged motorists driving through the area to be vigilant about potential flash floods.
Ada Derana correspondent said the water levels of the Mahaweli River are still on the rise.
