‘Yukthiya’ Operation: 1,554 arrested, police seek to detain 82 suspects

Security forces have arrested over 1,500 suspects in a 24-hour window lasting until 12:30 a.m. on Saturday (30 Dec.), during the ongoing ‘Yukthiya’ operation.

 

Accordingly, 1,554 persons were arrested, while 590g of heroin, 1kg and 330g of methamphetamine (‘Ice’), 6kg and 330g of cannabis, 4,104 cannabis plants, 505g of ‘Mawa’ (smokeless/chewing tobacco) and 119 intoxicating pills were seized during the special operation.

 

Police further reported that 128 of the suspects arrested during this operation are listed as Island Re-convicted Criminals (IRC) with both the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) and the Police Special Task Force (STF).

 

Meanwhile, police have sought measures to conduct further investigations into 82 of the suspects by way of detention orders, while 02 suspects are being probed for illegal assets and 62 others are slated to be sent to rehabilitation facilities.
