Cake sales significantly dropped during 2023 festive season, bakery owners complain

The All-Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association says cake sales have significantly decreased during the Christmas festive season this year compared to the corresponding period in 2022.

According to the president of the association N.K. Jayawardena, cake sales have dropped by at least 50 percent in 2023.

He attributed the situation to the skyrocketing prices of sugar, eggs and other raw materials.

Meanwhile, the price of 1 kilogram of green chillies has risen exorbitantly and now stands at a rate ranging between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1,300.
