CEB workers to launch three-day protest

The Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union says it will launch a three-day protest against the Bill to restructure the state-owned Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), from tomorrow (Jan. 03).

Chief Secretary of the union Ranjan Jayalal stated that they will demand the Minister of Power and Energy to immediately withdraw the relevant Bill.

“[Minister] Kanchana wants to sell this off together with [President] Ranil. If this Bill is passed arbitrarily in the Parliament, the CEB workers will go for a massive strike then.”

“We are making an open challenge to Kanchana, to present this Bill to parliament, if possible. On that day, we will bring all the employees of CEB to the [parliament’s] doorstep”, he added.

In the meantime, the national organizer of the All-Ceylon Fisheries Federation Ratna Gamage said that their industry is in crisis due to the new Fisheries Act.
