Nawagamuwa shooting victim succumbs to injuries

The individual who was hospitalised on Wednesday night (Jan.10) with gunshot wounds has died from his injuries, the police said.

The victim had sustained injuries in a shooting incident at Thunadahena area in Nawagamuwa.

He had been rushed to the General Hospital in Colombo for immediate medical attention, however had succumbed to injuries shortly after.

According to police, two unidentified individuals wearing full-face helmets had arrived on a motorcycle to a residence in the Korathota area in Kaduwela last night (10) and had abducted the victim while claiming to be Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel. 

They had taken the victim to a location in the Delgahawatte area in Thunadahena and shot him in the head using a 9mm pistol. The victim had initially been admitted to the Oruwala Hospital in Athurugiriya for treatment and was later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital where he had succumbed to injuries. 

The deceased has been identified as Buddhika Prasad, a father of one and resident of Korathota in Kaduwela. 

He has a pending court case in the Colombo High Court on charges pertaining to a murder in 2011 and the possession of a firearm, according to a spokesman for the Nawagamuwa Police. 

Four police teams have commenced investigations into the incident on the instruction of Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
