Police fire tear gas at protesting students in Peradeniya

Police have fired tear gas and water cannons near the Peradeniya Rest House in attempts to disperse a group of protesting students from the University of Peradeniya.

The Students’ Union of the Peradeniya University staged a protest march this afternoon (31 Jan.), over several demands including the reduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT), to stop all kinds of student repression, to immediately resolve all issues related to academic welfare and to expand opportunities for free education.
