
Another 703 suspects have been arrested by Sri Lanka’s police and security forces personnel within 24 hours which ended at 12.30 a.m. today (Feb.02). The arrests were made as part of the ongoing countrywide anti-drug operation ‘Yukthiya’.
Among the arrestees are 525 suspects who were taken into custody on narcotics-related charges and 178 others who were on the list of wanted criminal suspects.
Detention orders have been secured against one of the drug suspects, while another six were referred to rehabilitation centres, the Ministry of Public Security said.
According to the ministry, the narcotics taken into custody during this period include 204g of heroin, 118g of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 3.1kg of cannabis and 477 narcotic pills.
