
Several inmates and an army soldier have reportedly been injured in a clash between two groups at the Kandakadu Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre, police reported.
According to the Welikanda Police, the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Welikanda Hospital, while 34 inmates have been arrested in connection with the incident.
While the cause of the clash is yet to be determined, police reported that those involved had damaged property within the Kandakadu camp, while several poles and clubs believed to have been used in the clash had been taken into police custody.
Meanwhile, police also seized a stock of narcotics found within the premises.
The arrestees are due to be produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday (05 Feb.).
