Mahindananda’s money laundering case: Date set to deliver verdict

The Colombo High Court has fixed a date to deliver the verdict of a money laundering case filed against former Minister and SLPP Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

Accordingly, when the case was taken up today (Feb. 14), Colombo High Court Judge Nawarathne Marasinghe ordered that the verdict will be issued on April 25, 2024.

Mahindananda Aluthgamage has been charged with failure to declare the source of funds used to purchase a luxury house worth Rs. 27.4 million at Kynsey Road in Borella, during his tenure as a minister. 

The Attorney General had filed indictments against the ex-minister under the the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, in the year 2017. 

When the case was taken up today, Senior Deputy Solicitor General Shanil Kularatne who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General and Attorney-at-Law Kanchana Ratwatte who appeared on behalf of the defendant made oral submissions related to the case.

The written submissions are expected to be handed over to the court in the future.
