A new ground-mounted solar project was opened in Kommathurai, Batticaloa on Sunday morning (10 March), Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera stated.

In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the Minister revealed that the 2MW solar project had been successfully constructed and commissioned by BackBay Solar Private Ltd.

BackBay Solar is managed by Sino Lanka Power Gen, a leader in commercial rooftop solar installations with approximately 50MW of projects completed or undergoing development. Sino Lanka Power Gen meanwhile is a subsidiary of Orbital Energy, a renewable energy developer with large-scale utility projects in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India.

Wijesekera further stated that the ground-mounted solar plant was a part of the 90MW Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) solar power tendering process.
