Four school boys drown while bathing in Ma Oya

Four school boys have reportedly drowned while bathing in the Ma Oya in Alwwa while another student has been rescued and hospitalised. 

Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said a group of five boys were bathing in the river when the incident occurred.

One of the boys has been rescued by residents in the area and admitted to hospital, however, the other four have been pronounced dead. 

The drowning victims are Grade 09 students of a school in the Polgahawala area, police said.
