‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ special luxury tourist train inaugurated

The special luxury tourist train ‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ was launched this morning (05), to mark the centenary of the inception of train services on the Colombo - Badulla line.

The maiden journey of ‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ kicked off at Colombo Fort railway station at 06.30 a.m. this morning, under the patronage of Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardena.

‘Dunhinda Odyssey’ is the third of the ‘Odyssey’ train series launched by Sri Lanka Railways aimed at facilitating tourists, and it comes years after the launch of ‘Ella Odyssey’ and ‘Seethawaka Odyssey’.

Set to dedicate for passenger transportation following the inauguration, the train fare for a first class ticket will be Rs. 8,000, Rs. 6,000 for second class while a third class ticket will be priced at Rs. 5,000 between Colombo Fort to Badulla/Ella.

The train will operate from Colombo Fort to Badulla every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 6.30 a.m. and from Badulla to Colombo Fort on every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 8.00 a.m.

The train will stop at tourist attractions and view points along the way, including Horsetail Falls, Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada), St. Clair’s Falls, Elgin Falls, Summit Level, Tunnel No. 18 (Pattipola Tunnel), Idalgashinna Wind Gap, Kithal Ella Falls, Nine Arch Bridge and Demodara Loop.

The train consists of four First Class cabins, three Second Class cabins and one Third Class cabin with a canteen.
