Woman arrested for murder of infant daughter over dispute with husband

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her own two-month-old daughter by throwing the infant into a well at their home at Kandakudawa, Kalpitiya.

The incident had been reported in the early hours of yesterday (02) in the Kandakudawa area and it is reported that the mother who has killed her baby allegedly due to the lack of caring from her husband towards them both. 

Kalpitiya Police had launched an investigation based on information received via the ‘119’ police emergency hotline service regarding the body of a baby found in a well in Kandakaduwa areas on Thursday (May 02) morning.

Investigations have uncovered that the deceased, a two-and-half-month-old baby, had been suffering from an illness and that the depressed mother had thrown the infant into the well behind their home, allegedly due to the lack of care from her husband towards both her and the baby. 

The 32-year-old female suspect, who is a resident of Thaladiya, has been arrested while Kalpitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
