Court order issued against JVP trade unions’ protest in Colombo

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has issued an order on several trade union leaders of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and others over a protest march planned in Colombo this evening (15).

Accordingly, the court order prevents K.D. Lal Kantha, Mahinda Jayasinghe, Ranjan Jayalal and other protestors from inconveniencing the public or pedestrians along several major roads in Colombo including Dean’s Road, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Technical Junction, Ibbanwala Junction, Ada Derana reporter said. 

The order has been issued by Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama after considering a request made by the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Maradana Police Station today. 

President of the National Trade Union Center (NTUC) K.D. Lal Kantha, Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe, Deputy Secretary Chandana Sooriyarachchi, CEB Workers’ Union (CEBWU) General Secretary Ranjan Jayalal, Chief Secretary of the All Ceylon General Port Employees’ Union Niroshan Gorakanage and National Organiser of the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) Eranga Gunasekara have been named in the directive. 

Accordingly, the protesters are prohibited from inconveniencing the public or pedestrians along the roads from Technical Junction to Kele Pola, Technical Junction, Dean’s Road, Ibbanwala Junction, Darley Road (T.B. Jayah Mawatha), towards Lotus Tower Road through Gamini Roundabout and the pavements along these roads.
