Matara Prison inmate dies of suspected brain fever

An inmate of the Matara Prison has succumbed to an illness, presumed to be brain fever, Ada Derana learns.

Sources stated that the 24-year-old inmate, who had been imprisoned about 03 months ago, died while receiving treatment at Matara Hospital last night (20). 

It is suspected that the inmate in question died from brain fever and investigations are being conducted in this regard. 

Meanwhile, another inmate who is currently receiving medical attention, too, is said to be suffering from the same symptoms.

Several cases of brain fever had been reported from the Matara Prison in December last year resulting in multiple deaths of inmates.
