Stand-up comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya and the owner of the ‘SL VLOG’ YouTube channel Bruno Divakara have been released by the Fort Magistrate’s Court from the case filed against them for allegedly making controversial statements on Buddhism.
Edirisooriya was arrested on 28 May, 2023 after she found herself in hot water over certain remarks she had made, allegedly insulting Buddhism, Christianity and Islam during her segment at a stand-up comedy show hosted at a leading school in Colombo.
She was arrested by the CID at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, while preparing to leave the country.
Meanwhile, Bruno Divakara – the owner of the YouTube channel ‘SL VLOG’ where Nathasha’s viral video was posted – was also arrested on 31 May, 2023 after being grilled for over 08 hours over the controversial video.
Divakara was released on bail by the court on 21 June while Edirisooriya was granted bail on 05 July after she filed a petition with the Colombo High Court.
