Lanka Premier League player draft concludes with several notable omissions

The player draft of the Lanka Premier League 2026 concluded in Colombo with some notable omissions.

The draft featured multiple categories, namely Platinum, Gold, Classic, Emerging and Associate Stars.

Although a total of 421 players initially entered the Player Draft of the tournament’s 6th edition, comprising 179 Sri Lankan players and 242 overseas players, some of them did not feature today.

The Sri Lankan players included National, Domestic and Emerging players.

Sri Lankan stars Pathum Nissanka and Matheesha Pathirana did not feature in the final draft owing to injuries while the likes of Lahiru Kumara were not picked by any of the franchises.

Several prominent under-19 Sri Lanka players also did not feature in the player draft owing to the commitment with the junior national team.

The 2026 edition of the LPL will be played from July 17 to August 8 across key venues in Colombo, Pallekele and Dambulla.

The tournament will feature five franchises, 20 league-stage matches, followed by the Qualifiers, Eliminator and Final.
