Four individuals, including two women, have been arrested in connection with a viral social media video showing a man being brutally assaulted, police stated.

The incident, which gained widespread attention online in recent days, involved the alleged assault of a man who had been identified as a suspect in a property theft case in Galle.

According to Police, a 16-year-old youth was arrested based on a complaint and subsequently remanded after being produced before the Magistrate’s Court.

Following a complaint lodged by the mother of the youth alleging that her son had been subjected to inhumane treatment and assault by the complainant party, Police launched an investigation and arrested four members of the same family.

The suspects include a 47-year-old woman, her husband, and their 17-year-old daughter and son.

They are scheduled to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court today (04).

Meanwhile, Police have also arrested seven students over a separate assault incident that surfaced on social media, showing two students being assaulted by a group of fellow students.

The video, which was reportedly recorded near the Iratperiyakulama Tank, showed the two students being subjected to a brutal assault by several others.

Following investigations, the Iratperiyakulama Police arrested seven students aged between 14 and 17 in connection with the incident.

After being produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court, the suspects were ordered to be placed under the care of the Kebithigollewa Probation Department until June 10.

Police stated that the two victims are currently receiving inpatient treatment at the Vavuniya Hospital.
