Police seek public assistance to nab 3 suspects in fatal Meegoda crash

Sri Lanka Police have sought public assistance to locate three suspects who allegedly fled the scene following the fatal road accident that claimed six lives near a Vesak Dansala at Meegoda Junction on May 31.

 

The incident had occurred along the Avissawella–Colombo High Level Road within the Meegoda Police Division when a cab reportedly drove into a group of people waiting in line at a Dansala. Six persons were killed and seven others sustained serious injuries in the crash.

 

Police said the cab driver was arrested and produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on June 1, 2026. Accordingly, the court ordered that he be remanded until June 16, 2026. 

 

Investigations have since revealed that three other individuals were travelling in the cab at the time of the incident. According to police, the suspects fled the area after the driver was taken into custody.

 

Two dedicated police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the suspects. The individuals being sought have been identified as:

 

Attanayakege Don Wasantha of Kudamaduwa, Siddamulla, Piliyandala, the registered owner of the cab

 

S.K. Kumara, also known as ‘Sellamuttu Sellakumar,’of Pelanwatte, Pannipitiya

 

Don Sarath Hettige of Pelanwatte, Pannipitiya

 

Police have circulated photographs of the suspects and has urged anyone with information regarding their whereabouts to contact the Officer-in-Charge of Meegoda Police on 071 859 2179 or the Officer-in-Charge of Traffic, Meegoda Police on 077 949 4188.
