Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU), former MP Udaya Gammanpila, has alleged that former Head of the State Intelligence Service, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Suresh Sallay, who is currently being held under detention orders, has launched a hunger strike.
Speaking at a press conference held today (06), Gammanpila claimed that when Sallay’s brother and son visited the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to meet him, they observed that the former intelligence chief was experiencing a mental breakdown.
He further claimed that, due to what he described as “inhumane treatment”, the former intelligence chief had refused to partake any food, water, or medication, and had launched a fast unto death in protest.
