A six-day detention order has been issued on the Assistant Manager of a state bank’s branch in Horana who was arrested in connection with the theft of over Rs. 30 million in cash from the bank branch.

Meanwhile, the security guard who was also arrested over the incident has been remanded until June 11.

The orders were issued after the suspects were produced before the Acting Horana Magistrate this evening (06).

On June 3 at around 2:55 p.m., a bank employee was carrying two bags of cash through the rear entrance of the bank when an individual allegedly arrived, forcibly snatched the cash bags, and fled the area.

The stolen cash amounted to Rs. 30.5 million, which was being transported for deposit into the automated teller machines (ATMs) of the respective bank.

An assistant manager and a security officer of the state bank’s branch were arrested in connection with the robbery two days later.
