
The Department of Irrigation says that 63% of the total storage capacity of the 73 major reservoirs under its management has been filled, ensuring an adequate supply of water for the ongoing Yala cultivation season.
According to the Department, reservoir storage levels currently stand at 41% in Ampara, 81% in Anuradhapura, 74% in Badulla, 49% in Matale, 72% in Galle, 93% in Kandy, 86% in Kurunegala, 76% in Monaragala, 71% in Polonnaruwa, 93% in Puttalam, 68% in Trincomalee, and 76% in Mannar.
However, the Department has urged the public and farming communities to use water sparingly, as a decline in rainfall is expected in the coming weeks.
