The Sarvajana Balaya has alleged that defamatory content is being circulated on social media targeting the family members of former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay.
Speaking at a Satyagraha campaign held opposite of the Colombo Fort Railway Station, the Deputy Chairperson of Sarvajana Balaya, Dr. Channa Jayasumana called for Suresh Sallay’s release, claiming he is being unlawfully detained. He also criticized what he described as “social media harassment” directed at the wife of Suresh Sallay and children, accusing government-linked actors and political activists of being responsible.
The Satyagraha campaign was launched this morning, with the participation from Buddhist monks and representatives of several opposition political parties, protesting against the alleged mistreatment of the former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay and his continued detention under a detention order.
Tensions were later reported when police removed a temporary stage set up for the protest, according to an Ada Derana correspondent.
Representatives from multiple opposition parties, including Sarvajana Balaya, the National Freedom Front, the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, attended the demonstration.
