
Two individuals have died following a collision between a train and a three-wheeler near Kandana this morning (09), police said.
The accident occurred around 7.10 a.m. at the level crossing between Kapuwatta and Kandana when a train operating from Chilaw to Colombo Fort collided with a three-wheeler.
Police said the warning signals and bells at the crossing were active at the time, but the three-wheeler driver had attempted to cross the railway line.
The driver of the three-wheeler and a 75-year-old woman from Ja-Ela who was a passenger in the vehicle died as a result of the crash.
The identity of the three-wheeler driver has not yet been confirmed, police said.
Kandana Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
