Two of the three individuals swept away by strong sea currents off the Galle Face Beach have been successfully rescued, while search operations are continuing for the missing person, police said.
It is reported that a group of six schoolchildren, all of them around 15 years of age and residents of Maligawatte, had gone sea bathing at the Galle Face Beach.
Three of the children were swept away by the strong currents and two of them have since been rescued and admitted to hospital, with one child reported to be in critical condition, said Ada Derana reporter.
The other child is still reported missing, and a search operation has been launched by Navy divers to locate the missing child.
