Opposition MPs make request to Speaker over delay in filling Supreme Court vacancies

A letter signed by opposition Members of Parliament has been handed over to Speaker of Parliament Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, highlighting delays in the appointment of vacant judicial positions in the Supreme Court and requesting the President to take immediate action to fill the existing vacancies.
The letter was submitted to the Speaker in Parliament today (12).
The opposition members, through the letter addressed to the Speaker, have requested the Speaker, as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council, to bring these matters to the attention of the President and take steps to safeguard the independence of the judiciary.
