
A special operation to detect drivers and conductors of passenger transport buses operating under the influence of narcotics was carried out by the Police yesterday (11) at the Horana main bus stand.
The operation was conducted jointly by traffic officers attached to the Horana, Ingiriya, Moragahahena and Aguruwathota Police Stations, together with officials of the National Transport Medical Institute.
Drivers and conductors of passenger buses commencing their journeys from Horana as well as those passing through the town were subjected to screening.
A total of 151 bus drivers and conductors were tested during the operation. Police had arrested four bus drivers and two conductors who were found to have been using narcotic substances while engaged in passenger transport services.
Police also took into custody four buses operated by the arrested drivers.
According to Police, the suspects are between 34 and 61 years of age and are residents of Kuda Oduwa, Ballapitiya, Kalugahahinna, Govinna and Egodahena.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Horana Police.
