A 65-year-old businessman has been arrested by the Madampe Police for the alleged sexual abuse of a five-year-old preschool student.
The suspect, a resident of the Karukuwatawa area in Madampe, was apprehended following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
According to police, the incident occurred when the young girl visited a retail shop operated by the suspect to purchase biscuits. The suspect allegedly lured the child into the interior of the premises, where the abuse took place.
The victim has been admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital and referred to the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) for a comprehensive medical examination.
Madampe Police are conducting further investigations, and the suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Chilaw Magistrate’s Court.
