Minor flood warning issued for Kuda Ganga sub-basin of Kalu River

According to the Department of Irrigation, there is a possibility of minor flooding in low-lying areas of the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River Basin within the next 24 hours.

The Department stated that significant rainfall has been received in the upper catchment areas of the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River.

Based on the prevailing rainfall conditions and the analysis of water levels recorded at river gauging stations maintained by the Irrigation Department within the Kalu River Basin, a minor flood situation is currently being observed in the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River Basin, it said.

However, according to the rainfall data received so far and the prevailing rainfall pattern, no significant or rapid rise in river water levels is expected during the next few hours.

Therefore, residents living in low-lying areas of the floodplains of the Kuda Ganga and Magura Ganga within the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala, and Palindanuwara Divisional Secretariat Divisions, as well as motorists travelling through these areas, are requested to exercise caution.

Relevant disaster management agencies and other responsible authorities are also requested to take the necessary precautionary and preparedness measures in response to this situation.
