Organized criminal suspects 'Bloemendhal Sanka' and the brother of 'Modera Nipun', who are involved in organised crimes, have been deported from Abu Dhabi and were arrested by police on arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night (13), police said.
The two suspects, who had fled Sri Lanka and were reportedly hiding in Abu Dhabi, were arrested by security authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after allegedly being found in possession of photographs and video footage of drones and missile attacks by Iran linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Following their arrest, the suspects were imprisoned in Abu Dhabi before being deported to Sri Lanka.
Upon their arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), officers of the Criminal Investigation Department arrested both suspects and recorded statements from them.
Subsequently, one of the suspects, identified as 'Modara Chathura', was handed over to the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) in Narahenpita, Colombo, for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the other suspect, 'Bloemendhal Sanka' remains in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department at BIA, where officers are continuing to record his statement and conduct further inquiries.
