17 schoolchildren injured in head-on collision on A9 road in Kandy

At least 17 schoolchildren sustained injuries following a motor accident on the Kandy–Jaffna A9 road in Kalugala, Katugastota at around 2.00 p.m. today (15).
The accident was a result of a school van colliding head-on with a private bus.
The driver of the van was also injured in the crash. All injured persons were hospitalized for treatment.
The private bus was traveling towards Kandy, while the school van was heading in the opposite direction at the time of the collision.
The injured were first admitted to the Katugastota Divisional Hospital and later transferred to the Kandy National Hospital for further treatment.
Katugastota Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
