
The Colombo Permanent Trial-at-Bar has ordered that the verdict in the case filed by the Attorney General against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando will be delivered on July 31.
Hemasiri Fernando faces charges, including criminal negligence of duty, for allegedly failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terror attacks despite receiving intelligence information.
The case was taken up today before the Colombo Permanent Trial-at-Bar bench comprising Judges Priyantha Liyanage, Viraj Weerasuriya, and Thilakarathna Bandara.
During the proceedings, Counsel Chaminda Atukorale, appearing on behalf of Hemasiri Fernando, concluded his oral submissions, said Ada Derana reporter.
After considering the facts presented, the High Court bench announced that the judgment in the case will be delivered on July 31.
Meanwhile, the trial in the case filed by the Attorney General against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara, who faces similar charges of criminal negligence of duty for allegedly failing to act on intelligence warnings regarding the impending Easter Sunday attacks, was also concluded last Friday.
Accordingly, the Colombo Permanent Trial-at-Bar had ordered that the verdict in the case against Pujith Jayasundara will also be delivered on July 31.
