
A total of four suspects arrested in connection with the fatal road accident near the Meegoda Junction on Vesak Day, which claimed six lives, has been further remanded.
The suspects were produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court today (16), where Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya ordered that the group be further remanded until June 30, Ada Derana reporter said.
The accused include the alleged owner of the cab, a resident of Piliyandala, the driver of the cab known and two others.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that compensation of Rs. 100,000 has been arranged for the family of one of the deceased, while the defense has also agreed to pay Rs. 100,000 each to the families of the remaining five victims.
The Magistrate also directed that the progress of the investigation be reported at the next court date.
The incident had occurred along the Avissawella–Colombo High Level Road within the Meegoda Police Division when a cab reportedly drove into a group of people waiting in line at a Dansala.
Six persons were killed and seven others sustained serious injuries in the crash.
