
A 32-year-old individual has been arrested in connection with an alleged fraud involving Rs. 4.99 million after promising to secure overseas employment for a victim, police said.
The investigation was launched by the Kilinochchi Divisional Special Crime Investigation Unit following a complaint lodged with the Kilinochchi Police Station.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly obtained money from the complainant under the pretext of arranging a job in a foreign country.
Acting on the findings of the investigation, officers arrested the suspect, an Indian national who has acquired Sri Lankan citizenship.
The suspect, a resident of Kilinochchi, is expected to face further legal proceedings.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Kilinochchi Divisional Special Crime Investigation Unit.
