At least two persons have been killed and another critically injured in a road accident in Galkandegama along the Kandy-Jaffna main road early this morning (17), police said.

The accident occurred when a lorry transporting a group of fishermen from Norochcholai to Mullaitivu was struck from behind by a fertilizer truck. The impact caused the stationary lorry to topple onto the vehicle carrying the fishermen.

The deceased have been identified as two fishermen aged 35 and 43, both residents of Norochcholai.

Another fisherman sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Vavuniya General Hospital along with the bodies of the deceased. Hospital sources said the injured man is in critical condition.
