Passenger train services on the Up-country railway line from Nanu Oya to Badulla, which were disrupted due to damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah, are scheduled to resume from Saturday (20).
The chair of the Nuwara Eliya District Coordination Committee, Member of Parliament Manjula Suraweera Arachchi revealed this during a discussion held today (17) on shortcomings at the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depot in Hatton.
At present, up-country railway operations are limited up to Badulla and Ambewela due to the disruption.
He further noted that restoration work on the remaining damaged sections of the railway line is being carried out at a rapid pace.
Accordingly, passenger train operations from Nawalapitiya to Badulla are expected to fully resume from September this year.
