School teacher killed in bus accident on Jaffna–Kandy main road

A 56-year-old school teacher has been killed in a road accident involving a bus and a motorcycle in Poonewa along the Jaffna–Kandy main road, police stated.


The accident had occurred this morning (18) when a bus operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), travelling from Kandy to Vavuniya, collided with a motorcycle. 


Following the collision, the female rider was reportedly run over by the rear wheel of the bus, resulting in her death.


The deceased has been identified as a teacher attached to the Galkandegama Vidyalaya in Poonewa.
Police said the body has been placed at the morgue of the Vavuniya Hospital for post-mortem examination.


The bus driver has been arrested in connection with the incident, and further investigations are being conducted by Poonewa Police.
