A 38-year-old man travelling in a three-wheeler has been arrested by the Special Operations Unit of the Gonahena Police Special Task Force (STF) in the Kandaliyadda Paluwa area of Ganemulla while transporting a stock of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine) narcotics estimated to be worth over Rs. 100 million.

According to the police, the suspect was found transporting 6 kilograms and 288 grams of ‘Ice’ at the time of his arrest.

Investigations have revealed that the arrested suspect is a key member operating the local drug network of ‘Podi Suresh’ and ‘Sanka Sameera’, who are large-scale drug traffickers and organized criminals currently hiding overseas, police said.

The raid was carried out yesterday (19) on the road opposite the St. Andrew’s Avellino Church in Kadawatha, based on information received by the STF.

Police also seized an electronic scale allegedly used for weighing drugs, cash believed to have been earned through the drug racket, and the three-wheeler used to transport the narcotics, officials said.

The arrested suspect has been identified as a 38-year-old resident of Kandaliyadda Paluwa in Ganemulla.

The suspect and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
