Man dies after drowning at Koggala estuary despite rescue efforts

A 37-year-old man has died following a drowning incident at the Koggala estuary in Galle today (21), police said.
The deceased, a father of one from Pothuhera, Kurunegala, had visited the area with a group on a trip when the incident occurred.
Police said the group had been advised not to bathe in the estuary due to dangerous conditions. However, three individuals had entered the water despite the warning.
According to an eyewitness, two of them managed to reach a rocky area and save themselves, while the third was swept away by a strong current.
He added that area residents made efforts to rescue the victim and rushed him to hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.
