The corruption case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against former Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and another accused was taken up today (22) before the Colombo High Court.
The matter was heard before Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela.
During today’s proceedings, evidence was recorded from prosecution witnesses, Ada Derana reporter said.
Following the hearing, the High Court Judge ordered that the case be called again for further proceedings on July 30.
Charges have been filed alleging that funds from the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka were used on November 19, 2014, to publish newspaper supplements in 11 newspapers, in connection with the second inauguration of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Commission alleges that this resulted in a financial loss of over Rs. 1.7 million to the government, constituting an offence under anti-corruption laws.
