
Two suspects have been arrested after police uncovered two cannabis cultivations during a raid carried out in the Aluthwela area by officers attached to the Wellawaya Police Station.
According to police, a large number of cannabis plants were found in the two cultivations, with the estimated street value of the seized cannabis exceeding Rs. 5 million.
The two individuals suspected of cultivating the cannabis were taken into custody during the operation.
Police also had recovered a locally manufactured firearm from the possession of the suspects.
All cannabis plants found were destroyed by being set on fire, police said.
The arrested suspects are due to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court, while further investigations are underway.
