A Police Inspector attached to the Kalutara Special Crime Investigation Unit has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 1 million from a businessman.

 

The arrested officer is reportedly attached to the Special Crime Investigation Unit, which is under the Kalutara SSP’s Office.

 

According to reports, the Special Crime Investigation Unit had been conducting an investigation into a vehicle belonging to a businessman in the Kalutara area, and the officer had allegedly demanded Rs. 1 million from him in return for not filing criminal charges in court in connection with the investigation.

 

The police officer had initially reportedly accepted a bribe of Rs. 100,000 from the complainant and was arrested at a hotel in Kalutara while attempting to collect the remaining Rs. 900,000.

 

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
