The Grama Niladhari Officers’ Trade Union Alliance has announced that Grama Niladharis island-wide have decided to withdraw from all field duties with effect from today (24).
Speaking at a press conference held today, president of the alliance Nandana Ranasinghe stated that if their demands are not addressed, they will launch a trade union action by reporting sick on June 30.
He explained that the decision was taken based on several demands, including the provision of an adequate fuel allowance to cover travel expenses, a request that Grama Niladhari Officers have been making for several years.
The trade union alliance further emphasized that the authorities must take immediate action to provide the necessary facilities and allowances required for Grama Niladharis to effectively carry out their official duties.
