Negombo Prison inmates to be transferred to other prisons amid tensions

Steps are being taken to transfer inmates from the Negombo Prison to other prisons in an effort to defuse the situation, according to sources.
The transfers are being carried out as part of measures to ease tensions and restore normalcy at the prison. Authorities said the situation is being closely monitored, while additional security measures remain in place.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the renewed unrest within the Negombo Prison this morning (06) has increased to 25, according to police.
Among them five are reportedly prison officials and twenty of them are prison inmates.
Meanwhile, at least 100 individuals are reportedly injured in the clash.
