HRCSL to conduct comprehensive probe into Negombo Prison incident

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has decided to launch a special investigation into the incident that recently occurred at Negombo Prison.
Human Rights Commissioner Nimal G. Punchihewa stated that the Commission has resolved to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident to ascertain the relevant facts and circumstances.
Accordingly, a team of HRCSL officials was dispatched to Negombo Prison yesterday (06) to initiate the investigation. However, the inquiry could not commence due to the tense situation prevailing at the prison.
Commissioner Punchihewa further stated that the Commission will visit Negombo Prison within the next few days to begin a full-scale investigation into the incident.
